THE LENGEND OF AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER Movie Could Be Getting a Surprise Release After Massive Leak
Fans of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender may not have to wait until October to see the long-awaited animated movie. A new report suggests Paramount could be planning an unexpected release later this month, although nothing has been officially confirmed.
According to a ResetEra user, Paramount+ Brazil briefly posted its July streaming lineup, which reportedly included The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender with a July 25 release date before the post was quickly deleted.
We haven't been able to verify the post ourselves through Paramount's official channels, so it's worth treating this as a rumor for now.
If the date is accurate, it would be a major change from the film's previously announced October 9 release.
Fans have also noticed that July 25 lines up with San Diego Comic-Con, leading to speculation that Paramount may have been planning a surprise debut tied to the convention. If that was the strategy, it looks like the cat may already be out of the bag.
It's been an unusually rough road for the new Avatar movie. Earlier this year, footage from the film leaked online through a user known as ImStillDissin. Things escalated even further when complete, non-watermarked versions of the movie surfaced online from another source.
The leak spread so widely across the internet that the film even landed on Letterboxd's "Popular This Week" list, despite not being officially released.
The situation was disappointing for fans and the people involved with the project. Dallas Liu, who plays Zuko in Netflix's live-action adaptation, previously shared his reaction to the leak, saying: "It was a huge bummer, because I was really excited to watch it,"
Meanwhile, the Avatar franchise has also been making headlines on the television side. Netflix recently released Season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender, but the series reportedly saw a 59% decline in viewership compared to its first season. Critical reception was also mixed.
As for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, fans will have to wait and see if the rumored July 25 release turns out to be real.
With Comic-Con right around the corner and plenty of attention already surrounding the film because of its unfortunate leak, it certainly wouldn't be the most unexpected way to finally get the movie into fans' hands.
