The Madonna Biopic with Julia Garner Has Been Scrapped
The Madonna biopic that was set up at Universal Pictures is no longer moving forward, the project has been scrapped. Julia Garner was set to play Madonna in the movie, but she’s a highly in-demand actress and won’t have any problems finding another gig to showcase her talents.
The news comes following Madonna’s announcement that she’ll be embarking on a 35-city global tour, referred to as The Celebration Tour, on July 15. Madonna was supposed to direct the movie, but it looks like this big tour has taken priority. She also wrote several drafts of the script with Diablo Cody (Juno) and Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl on the Train).
The movie was going to follow the early days of the oft-controversial artist and queen of perpetual reinvention. When talking about the movie, Madonna she said she hoped to “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
I was actually kind of curious about this movie, but the world will move on without it. Madonna launches her big tour at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena with stops in Detroit, Chicago, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, Cleveland, Denver and other North American cities to follow, ahead of an 11-city European leg beginning October 14th.
