THE MATRIX Revival is Still Moving Forward at WB and The Wachowskis Will Be Involved
A couple years ago it was reported that Warner Bros. was going to be reviving the classic sci-fi action thriller The Matrix. There was a lot of mixed reactions from the fans regarding the news.
When the project was initially announced it was reported that the Wachowskis would not be involved with the project, but according to John Wick director and Matrix stunt coordinator Chad Stahelski, the Wachowskis are involved with the project!
During an interview with Yahoo Movies UK, the filmmaker said:
“I’m super happy that the Wachowskis are not just doing a Matrix, but they’re expanding what we all loved. And if it’s anywhere near the level of what they’ve already done, it wouldn’t take more than a call to go, ‘Hey, we want you to be a stunt guy’ and I would probably go and get hit by a car.”
When asked if the Wachowskis would be directing this fourth Matrix film, Stahelski said, “I’m not sure of the overall. I’m not sure if Lana is.”
So, this should be some good news for anyone who are fans of the Wachowskis. The movie is currently being written by Zac Penn (Ready Player One) and when previously talking about the film, he’s the one who said that the film will be more of a revival than a reboot. He also said:
"I’ve been working on Matrix right now. Which is in…a phase right now. That’s a franchise I desperately want to see brought back and, I can’t go in to too much detail, but I’ve been harassing Warner Bros. for years to try to get it going again so that’s one thing I’m working on and I’ve been working on a bunch of other things too."
It was also initially reported the movie was being built around Michael B. Jordan (Creed), but who knows what has changed or will change by the time this new Matrix film project actually goes into production.
In case you’re wondering what Keanu Reeves thinks of all this, he would be interested in returning if the Wachowskis were on board. In 2017 he said:
“They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not?”
What do you all think about this new Matrix film and the fact that the Wachowskis will be involved with the development of the film? What would you want to see in a Matrix revival?
