The Original DEADPOOL 3 Idea Involved Deadpool on a Road Trip to Save Christmas
Before Disney bought 20th Century Fox and Deadpool returned to Marvel Studios, there was a third Deadpool movie already in development. That version of the film would’ve been a lot different than the one that we’re all excited to see with Deadpool & Wolverine.
We’ve known that Ryan Reynolds wanted to make a road trip movie involving Deadpool and Wolverine, and he wanted Hugh Jackman back in the role. But, until now, we didn’t know what exactly the story would entail. Now, thanks to Karan Soni, who reprises his role of Dopinder in Deadpool & Wolverine, we have some interesting new details for the original plan.
During an interview with Screen Rant at SXSW for his new film A Nice Indian Boy, the actor revealed that he actually shared some plot details with writer Roshan Sethi when they first met. He said:
"They're not telling me anything, which is good. Honestly, to bring it back to Roshan [Sethi], on our first date I recapped the plot of Deadpool 3, which I wasn't supposed to. This was the Fox version, which didn't get made because the studio got sold or whatever. But we just met, and I was desperate to impress him, and I just blurted the entire thing. I told him Hugh Jackman was gonna be in it - this was years before. All to say I didn't get a script this time, thank God! They didn't even tell me the trailer was coming out. I got to watch it when it came out, and I'm excited to be a small part of it."
Soni was then asked if he could share some of those details, and he revealed that Deadpool 3 was going to be a Christmas movie, saying:
"Yes, I think it's online a little bit, so I can. It was going to be originally a roadtrip movie where Deadpool tries to save Christmas, so we all go to the North Pole."
This is the first time we heard that the original Deadpool 3 concept would’ve been a Christmas road trip movie to the North Pole and that would have been so much fun! The PG-13 was reworked as a Holiday-themed version of Deadpool 2 titled Once Upon a Deadpool. While this still would’ve made for a great flick, I’m happy with what’s coming!
In Deadpool & Wolverine, “After facing some professional setbacks while going through a midlife crisis. Wade Wilson decides to officially retire Deadpool and becomes a used car salesman. But when his friends, family, and the whole world are at stake, Deadpool decides to bring his katanas out of retirement. He recruits an unwilling and wary Wolverine to not only fight for their survival, but ultimately, their legacy."
It’s also explained: "That f–king irresponsible hero Deadpool will change the history of the MCU with Wolverine!?"
The film also stars Emma Corrin as the villain Cassandra Nova, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic as Vanessa and Colossus, Matthew Macfadyen as a TVA Agent, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al. They are joined by Brianna Hildebrand, and Shioli Kutsuna will also return to the franchise as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s girlfriend Yukio. Rob Delaney will return as Peter and Jennifer Garner will return as Elektra in the movie.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26th!
