The Original GHOSTBUSTERS Cast Confirmed for the New Sequel and They've All Read the Script
I recently had the awesome opportunity to attend the Ghostbusters Fan Event that was hosted by Wizard World. It was a ton of fun, and there were a few bits of information regarding the upcoming sequel revealed that is sure to get fans excited for what’s to come.
Before a fan screening of the original film took place on Friday night, Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman came out to express his excitement for the new film that’s in development, which is coming from director Jason Reitman. Ivan said:
“You may have heard that a very fine director has written this extraordinary script.”
Aykroyd added:
“It has really blown us all away, blown Sony away, and he’s gonna deliver this extraordinary movie for 2020.”
Reitman continued saying, “Next generation, the carrier of the torch, he’s gonna take us right there.” Then Aykroyd enthusiastically broke in and said, “One, two, three, four, more sequels, Jason Reitman!”
Then, on Saturday during a panel at the main event, Jason Reitman showed up to share a few things about his movie. I was lucky enough to attend the event, and that’s where he confirmed that Sigourney Weaver, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray will be in the movie!
“Sigourney has read the screenplay…Dan has read it…Ernie’s read the script…Bill Murray has read the script.”
I know that Weaver already revealed this news, but it nice to have that confirmation from the director of the film. It’s going to be so cool to see Dana Barrett, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, and Peter Venkman back up on the big screen together, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for their story arc.
Reitman went on to explain that they brought in all of the people and talent who worked on the original movie to form an advisory board of people to ensure that they get this Ghostbusters movie right. Reitman added, “We wanted to make a love letter to the original movie.”
The filmmaker went on to talk about what inspired him to make this movie and how the story formed, saying:
“This character came to me, and she was a 12-year-old girl. And I don’t know who she was or why she popped into my head, but I saw her with a proton pack on her back, and the story began to form in my head… over many years, and it started to grow and all of a sudden, it was a family. I knew this was a movie I needed to write and I reached out to my writing parter Gil Kenan, and we sat down and started writing this movie.”
The film is said to have an Amblin-style feel, and it’s been reported that it will “focus on a family who moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to ‘learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.’”
The movie also stars Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, and McKenna Grace. Ghostbusters is slated to hit theaters on July 10th, 2020.
