The Original SUPER MARIO BROS. Movie Gets 4K Restoration and a Theatrical Re-Release... in Japan

The classic 1993 adaptation of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. is getting a 4K restoration for its 30th anniversary and to celebrate, the film will be getting a theatrical re-release… in Japan. This movie is so bad, yet so much fun to watch, especially with a big group of friends!

According to Crunchyroll, the movie will hit theaters for its 30th anniversary on September 14th. I’m kinda bummed that the movie is only getting a re-release in Japan. But, I do hope that there will be a special theatrical run of the original feature in the United States at some point.

Universal and Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie was such a huge hit, but there are a lot of people that haven’t had the opportunity to watch the original film on the big screen, they need to experience that with a theater full of fans! That’s sure to be a good time!

This movie went through so many issues and the production was a complete nightmare for pretty much everyone involved. But, they did manage to make a movie and that movie has quite the reputation.
