The PG-13 Version of DEADPOOL 2 Gets a Title, Logo, and New Details

The PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 that we’ve all been hearing about has been given and official title. That title is Once Upon A Deadpool and we have a logo for you to check out along with some additional details.

Once Upon a Deadpool will have a limited theatrical engagement that begins December 12th and concludes on Christmas Eve. There was some new footage shot for the film that will be used as a framing sequence for the movie and that idea was conceived by Ryan Reynolds and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. When previously talking about the new scenes, the writers explained:

“We definitely shot new stuff. And recently too. After Deadpool 2 came out and we were all sitting around, we came to it less about the idea of let’s make a PG-13 movie and more, ‘Let’s talk a little bit about Deadpool.’ We were kicking around some ideas and then I think it was Ryan [Reynolds] who had the great framing device and we all  got excited and went to the studio. They said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it. Fire up the cameras.’ About two months ago we were out on soundstages shooting again. Ryan was in the suit and the gang was back together, Dave Leitch and Ryan and us having a great time and laughing. It comes together great so we’re super excited about it.”

Those sequence will involve Fred Savage and will parody The Princess Bride as previously teased by Reynolds. It’s now been revealed that Once Upon A Deadpool hijacks The Princess Bride’s bedtime-story set-up and “eight scenes were filmed that will be used as interstitial additions to the existing sequel’s footage.”

Reynolds also revealed to Deadline that the Fuck Cancer charity will play a big component in the limited release. The actor said, “Because it’s the season of giving, we will also be giving $1 for every ticket sold to Fuck Cancer, which will be renamed Fudge Cancer just for this limited time and campaign.” The actor also said:

“Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006. I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”

Savage is having fun playing along with the new PG-13 Deadpool 2 concept saying, “While my participation in this film was anything but voluntary. I am happy to learn that Fudge Cancer will be the beneficiary of this shameless cash grab.”

Reynolds then used the opportunity to have some fun teasing Deadpool 3 saying, “Eighty percent of Deadpool 3 takes place at a 1970’s disco so it only makes sense we’d find a connection to Saturday Night Fever. Plus, Deadpool loves Stayin’ Alive. It’s literally his only superpower.”

I what Reynolds and his team have done with the Deadpool franchise and I’m excited to see what the future holds for the films. Hopefully Disney doesn’t fudge it all up.
