The Script For The JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE Series Has Been Completed By Comic Writer Rob Williams
That Judge Dredd: Mega-City One series that fans have been excited about has taken a big step forward as the script for the pilot episode has been completed by comic writer Rob Williams. Williams has worked mainly for the 2000 AD comics and he is now the creative lead on the series. According to THR, Willaims has "worked with a group of writers" to map out the story for the first two seasons.
Executive producer Jason Kingsley also made a statement that described the script for the series as being thrilling and teased more announcements to coming soon:
"I’ve read the pilot script by Rob and the team, and got that same thrill I did when I first discovered Judge Dredd. As we drive this project forward I’m always surprised by how much effort goes on behind-the-scenes to bring something like Mega-City One to the screen. I’m very pleased with how the whole project is coming together and looking forward to more exciting announcements in the coming months."
That's exciting to hear! There's still a long way to go as the series has yet to be picked up by a Network or Streaming Service. One of the last things we heard about the project was that Karl Urban was in talks to join the series and reprise his role. Producer Brian Jenkins previously discussed the show and addressed Urban’s involvement saying:
"We have had many conversations prior to this, about all sorts of things. He’s also very busy, a full-time professional actor. So we’re going to have some long and complicated conversations I would imagine, and we’ll see where we go. It’s too early to tell yet, but if we can use him and he’s available to us, then I think that would be absolutely brilliant. There’s always a possibility he will be busy, or that his schedule for other movies won’t allow- Basically, we don’t know at this stage."
Hopefully, everything works out with that. I'd love to see Urban back as Dredd! Producer Jason Kingsley also previously talked about what they are looking to do with the series saying:
"Dark fantasy elements are one area that would be great to explore. The show will combine the macabre with the insane and the light-hearted. It's a big place, after all, with 400 million stories to tell.
"Long-form storytelling makes showing Mega-City One and its inhabitants much easier. Trying to fit all of that into a two-hour movie is very hard."
Hopefully, this series comes together quickly because I can't wait to see what comes of it! Here's the description of the series that was previously released.
The show is set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. It will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges — futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner — as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them.
