The Plot For THE BATMAN Reportedly Revealed and Mahershala Ali was Wanted For Jim Gordon
We’ve got a couple of bits of new rumored details to share with you regarding director Matt Reeves’ DC film The Batman. Some rumored plot details have surfaced along with some potential casting news.
According to movie scooper Daniel Richtman, the film is a detective-driven story that will focus on Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) investigating a conspiracy that involves the hero’s rogue gallery of villains. The description offered reads:
“The Batman will explore a detective case — when people start dying in strange ways, Batman must go deep into the dark world of Gotham to find clues and solve the mystery/conspiracy connected to Gotham City’s history and criminals. In the film, all of Batman Rogues Gallery are already out there and active, similar to the comics and animated shows/movies. The film will have multiple villains, as they are all suspects.”
It’s previously been reported that there are four main villains in the film that will consist of The Riddler, The Penguin, Catwoman, and Firefly. I wouldn’t be surprised if more pop up though. This description is in line with what Reeves has previously said about the film. He’s explained that the movie will be a “noir-driven definitive Batman story” set in Gotham City and that it will show “more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films.” He went on to explain:
“The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
It’s also being reported by Entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider on his podcast that Mahershala Ali (Green Book) was Reeves’ “first choice” for the role of Commissioner Jim Gordon. But, Ali’s casting in Marvel’s Blade movie “probably took that off the table.”
“Now that he’s got his own Marvel movie, I don’t know that he’s looking to do yet another comic book movie. But I’m pretty sure he was Matt Reeves’ first choice for Commissioner Gordon in The Batman.”
It’s honestly not that hard to imagine Ali in the role of Gordon, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. It’ll be interesting to see who Reeves ends up casting to star alongside Pattinson. I imagine that the studio is hoping to fill this film with lots of big name actors.
The movie is set to hit theaters in June 25th, 2021 and I’m excited to see how it turns out!
