The Reshoots for THE NEW MUTANTS Movie Have Not Happened Yet and They Haven't Been Planned

The New Mutants has been going through some rough times, and it’s a shame because I was actually really looking forward to seeing it. I love the idea of a horror-themed X-Men movie, and the first trailer that was released was pretty cool!

Shortly after that, it was reported that the studio wanted to reshoot a big chunk of the film to make it scarier. The reason for that was because of the success of Stephen King’s It when it was released. Since then, the film’s release date has been pushed back, and there are rumors that it could even pop up on Hulu.

In regard to the reshoots that were supposed to happen, I assumed that they have happened or were at least in the process. But, according to THR that’s not the case. They are reporting that those reshoots have not happened yet and as of right now no reshoots have been planned or scheduled. So, that’s weird.

Josh Boone is still attached as the director, but there’s no reason given as to why the studio is dragging their feet on this movie. Especially since they were initially so excited about it! The report also goes on to suggest that the film could possibly end up on Disney+ after the Disney and Fox deal closes.

As of right now, The New Mutants is supposed to be released on August 2nd, but if no work is being done on it and there are no plans to do any work on it, I imagine they aren’t going to make that release date.

"Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves."

The movie stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as fallen Mirage.

Hopefully the studio can figure this all out and end up delivering a fun horror-filled X-Men movie.
