The Script For EASTERN PROMISES 2 is Now Being Developed as a Standalone Film Called BODY CROSS

Director David Cronenberg’s 2007 gangster movie Eastern Promises was an incredible film! The movie starred Viggo Mortensen and Vincent Cassel and there’s been talk of a sequel for years.

There was a point where the same creative team of the first film was excited to get back together to make a sequel. Cronenberg, the original screenwriter Steven Knight, and both actors were attached to do it, but then, for some reason it ended up never happening.

Well, now the script that was written for Eastern Promises 2 is being developed as a completely different standalone movie called Body Cross.

It’s not uncommon for scripts to be repurposed for other films, but I would have loved to see Eastern Promises 2 get made with the same creative team. According to Screen Daily, this new crime thriller, Body Cross, will be directed by Lady Macbeth filmmaker William Oldroyd.

The script for the film is almost ten years old and the story is said to follow “a Russian agent who rises to become a London mafia boss’ trusted lieutenant and is soon instructed to assassinate one of his fellow countrymen.”

The original Eastern Promises sequel would have picked up immediately where the first one left off. Here are those details:

"With the incompetent underboss Kirill (Cassel) thinking that he and his henchman driver Nikolai (Mortensen) really have inherited the throne from his crime-lord father, without knowing that Nikolai is actually a clandestine agent working undercover in Russia’s federal security service."

Body Cross my not be the Eastern Promises sequel we all wanted, but at least we are going to get a version of the story.
