The Setting of STAR WARS: OUTLAWS Allows For Maximum Criminal Opportunities
Some new details have been shared about the awesome-looking new Star Wars video game Star Wars: Outlaws. The game is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and it’s explained that the setting allows for maximum outlaw opportunities.
Matt Martin, a development executive for Star Wars games and a member of the Lucasfilm Story Group explains the gap in between the two films is the best place to tell the story of Kay Vess, the rookie scoundrel who's the main character in the series. He explained at Comic-Con:
"The Empire, who basically represent the law, are so focused on the Rebellion, that it's really a perfect opportunity for the underworld and the criminal syndicates [to] take their piece because the law's distracted.”
Steve Blank, director of franchise content and strategy at Lucasfilm said that because the Empire is busy diverting its resources and attention to fighting a civil war, it "creates an environment across the galaxy where outlaws can thrive.” Martin also reveals Outlaws will feature syndicates "both from existing lore and newly created for the game".
In a behind-the-scenes video for the game it showed some concept art for some of the hubs in the galaxy in which different syndicates reside. Art and world director Benedikt Podlesnigg also confirmed that the game will also include Tattooine because, of course, Tattooine is going to be in the game. Footage was then shown revealing Toshara, which is a new location created for Outlaws.
Star Wars: Outlaws is being billed as the first ever open-world Star Wars game, and players will be able to explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. The story centers on a female character named Kay Vess, who is voiced by Humberly Gonzalez. Kay Vess is “an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.”
This game looks like it’s going to be a blast to play! Star Wars: Outlaws will be released in 2024!
