The Spider-Man Villain Scorpion Reportedly Set for MCU Comeback After SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY

As Spider-Man: Brand New Day gears up for its theatrical release, rumors have started swirling about one of Peter Parker’s more dangerous enemies sticking around well beyond the film, and it could mean some serious trouble for the MCU’s friendly neighborhood hero.

According to insider MyTimeToShineHello, Michael Mando’s Mac Gargan, better known as Scorpion, “will return.” There were no other details shared.

That lines up with another recent rumor claiming Scorpion will play a major antagonistic role in Brand New Day, alongside Tombstone. While Marvel is keeping most of Gargan’s story under wraps, the trailer already gave us a taste of what’s coming.

There’s a brief but tense moment where Scorpion confronts Spider-Man, making it clear he’s not interested in small talk. At one point, he warns the hero to “stay out of [his] way,” which suggests Peter might not even be his main target.

That angle is interesting because it frames Scorpion less as a traditional villain-of-the-week and more as a wildcard with his own agenda. If Spider-Man crosses his path, it’s going to get ugly, but Gargan seems focused on something bigger.

That kind of setup could give the movie a more layered conflict, especially if multiple villains are pulling the strings.

Gargan hasn’t been seen since Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2017. In that film, he was a low-level criminal tied to Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture, played by Michael Keaton.

After Spider-Man shut down a weapons deal involving alien tech, Gargan ended up behind bars. But he didn’t go quietly. In the mid-credits scene, he approached Toomes with one thing on his mind, revenge, and asked if he knew who Spider-Man really was. That thread has been hanging there for years, and it looks like Marvel might finally be ready to pick it back up.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, working from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige, along with Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor.

Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, with Zendaya back as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. The cast also brings in Sadie Sink in a mystery role, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Tramell Tillman as Bill, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.

With multiple villains in play and Scorpion potentially sticking around for future stories, Brand New Day could be setting up something much bigger than a single showdown.

The film hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
