The Stars of KPOP DEMON HUNTERS Want the Sequel to Go Global or Go Back to the Beginning

The powerhouse voices behind KPop Demon Hunters are already dreaming big for the upcoming sequel, and their ideas could take fans on a wild ride across the world, or deep into the group’s mysterious past.

In a recent chat with Collider, the talented trio behind the hit Netflix film’s musical performances shared what they hope to see when KPop Demon Hunters 2 hits screens in 2029.

EJAE, who sings for Rumi, wants the sequel to celebrate Korean culture even more. “More Korean traditional stuff – traditional history, music, food,” she said. That’s something that fans can easily get behind, considering how much the original film’s blend of K-pop energy and Korean folklore resonated globally.

Audrey Nuna, the singing voice of Mira, envisions the sequel expanding its world in a massive way. “I want to see the girls in different cities. I want to see what they bring [globally], because this film has had such a global impact. I think the movie and reality have been having a really crazy conversation with each other, and I'd love to see that continue.”

That worldwide approach feels fitting for a movie that became a true streaming phenomenon. KPop Demon Hunters became Netflix’s biggest movie ever, racking up over 400 million views and pulling in $25 million during its limited theatrical runs in August and October.

But Rei Ami, who brings Zoey’s vocals to life, has another direction in mind, one that could dig into the team’s beginnings. “I would love to see the origin story of how the girls got together,” Ami said.

Fans only got a brief glimpse of that backstory in the first movie, which mostly focused on the group’s ongoing battle against demons and their fierce rivals, Huntr/x.

And if it’s not a prequel, Ami knows exactly what she wants instead. “If it's not a prequel, then I want Gwi-Ma back. Bring him back. Who's going to be the antagonist? I'm so curious for this next one.”

The hot-headed demon king Gwi-Ma, voiced by Lee Byung-hun of Squid Game fame, was a standout villain that fans would love to see return.

With KPop Demon Hunters 2 officially confirmed for a 2029 release, fans have plenty of time to imagine about where this supernatural girl group will go next.
