The Story for TERRIFIER 3 Is So Big It Might Have to Be Split Into Two Films
The ultra-gory Terrifier 2 has been the talk of the town as of late. Horror fans are loving it, and audience members have been so moved by the film that they are passing out and throwing up during screenings! If you’ve watched the film, it’s not hard to see why. This movie is not for the squeamish, but the hardcore horror fans are loving it and there’s been a big positive response from the horror community.
The first two films were written and directed by Damien Leon, and when he set out on this Terrifier journey, his plan was to make a trilogy. He told /Film last month:
"Right now, I would like to just tell a solid story where it has a nice arc for my heroes, my villains, it's complete. So a three is, I can almost guarantee a part three. After that? We'll see if there's anything left and if the fans still are still accepting of this character and this franchise."
Well, now it looks like the story for that third film of his ended up being so big that he may have to split that into two separate films! During a recent interview with Variety, the filmmaker shared the following update that is sure to make Terrifier fans happy:
"I pretty much have the entire treatment ready for 'Part 3,' but it's getting so big that it could potentially split into a 'Part 4' because I wouldn't want to make another 2 hour 20-minute movie. So we'll see."
I mean, with the hype train for Terrifier 2 moving at full speed, it might be smart to stretch the franchise out to two more films. Not only will Leon get to tell his full story with two films, but there’s also more money to be made. One thing the filmmaker doesn’t want to do is wear out his welcome:
“My fear is that eventually the well is gonna run dry, we’re gonna wind up jumping the shark, there will be nothing left to say with this character. It happens with a lot of franchises that I’m still a huge fan of. I’ve watched all these “Part 10s” and “Part 13s,” but sometimes that could really ruin the entire franchise. For them to peter out or not have this satisfying arc or the movie goes in another direction, that could be devastating to your overall franchise. I want to try and avoid that.”
Terrifier 2 has Art the Clown up to his old tricks once again. Following his gruesome demise in the first film, a sinister presence has brought Art back to life to rein terror on the residents of Miles County. On Halloween night, he returns to the unassuming town and sets his sights on fresh prey: a teenage girl and her little brother, portrayed by Lauren LaVera and Elliott Fullam, respectively.
The film marks the fifth on-screen appearance of Art the Clown. Originally created for a pair of low-budget shorts, the character made his feature-length debut in Leone’s 2013 hit All Hallows’ Eve. His iconic look, plus the personality and humor he exudes, changed the way we look at killer clowns forever. The sadistic clown went on to become a cult-horror icon with various pop culture merchandise companies selling masks, costumes, enamel pins, air fresheners, figurines, and even ugly Christmas sweaters.
What are your thoughts on the future of the Terrifier franchise!? Can you handle the gory insanity of two more films!?
