The VFX Work in GODZILLA MINUS ONE Was Created With a Team of Only 35 Artists
The more I learn about the production of Godzilla Minus One, the more I appreciate the movie. We recently learned that the film was made on only a $10 million budget, now a new report has surfaced regarding the film’s VFX team.
It’s been reported by THR that the film’s VFX team only consisted of 35 artists. Those artists oversaw all 610 VFX shots in the film. The director of the film, Takashi Yamazaki, also oversaw the entire VFX production process. That’s pretty freakin’ impressive considering how many visual effects artists are credited at the end of this big-budget Marvel and DC films, where the visual effects work has been suffering. Godzilla was even recently nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects!
These big major Hollywood studios could learn a few things from the creative team of Godzilla Minus One. They could be telling strong stories with great VFX work for a lot less money. But, I guess the producers of those big movies need to line their own pockets with cash.
I don’t know, I’ve just always believed there’s a better and smarter way to make these kinds of big tent pole movies that would result in a better outcome than what we’re seeing, and the production of Godzilla Minus One is proving all of these things that I’ve thought were possible.
