THE WITCHER Has Already Been Renewed for a Second Season by Netflix

The first season of The Witcher hasn’t even launched yet, but that’s not stopping Netflix from moving forward with a second season! This comes after creator, writer, and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said she has seven seasons for the series planned and enough source material for a 20-year series run.

We have no idea how long this series will end up running for, but we now know we’ll be getting at least two seasons. If the series ends up being a success, then more seasons are sure to follow. Hissrich had this to say in a statement:

“I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri.”

Like the first season, Season 2 will consist of eight episodes. Henry Cavill stars in the series as Geralt, and he is joined by Anya Chalotra (The ABC Murders, Wanderlust) as Yennefer and Freya Allan (The War of the Worlds, Into The Badlands) as Ciri. All of them seem like perfect choices for the roles they play, and I can’t wait to watch this show!

Here’s the synopsis for the series:

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

The series also stars Jodhi May (Game of Thrones, Genius) as Calanthe, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Fortitude) as Eist, Adam Levy (Knightfall, Snatch) as Mousesack, MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street, Kill List) as Tissaia, Mimi Ndiweni (Black Earth Rising) as Fringilla, Therica Wilson-Read (Profile) as Sabrina, and Emma Appleton (The End of The F**king World) as Renfri, Eamon Farren (The ABC Murders, Twin Peaks) as Cahir, Joey Batey (Knightfall, Strike) as Jaskier, Lars Mikkelsen (House of Cards, Sherlock) as Stregobor, Royce Pierreson (Wanderlust, Judy) as Istredd, Maciej Musiał (1983) as Sir Lazlo, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte (Jamillah & Aladdin, Dickensian) as Dara, and Anna Shaffer (Harry Potter) as Triss.

The first season of the series will be released on December 20th.
