THE WITCHER Series Showrunner Says Fans of The Game Will Love The Show

The first trailer for Netflix’s The Witcher series dropped at Comic-Con last week and fans seemed to love what it had to offer! This series is being adapted from the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski and not the video game franchise. But, that doesn’t mean fans of the game won’t like it!

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the showrunner for The Witcher, has reassured fans of the game that they are going to “love the show” if you’ve enjoyed the characters and stories from the games. While talking to CB about the series, she explained:

“You know, I've played the games, but really our stories are coming from the book, and what's cool to follow up to your follow up, is that I think there's a lot of concern, will the television show be for game fans as well? I absolutely think so. If you think about how adaptations work, the games are adaptations of the same source material that we're using. If you come to the games and love the characters and love the kinds of stories that you find there, I think you're going to love the show too.”

Regardless of if you’ve read the books or just played the game, the series looks like it’s going to be an epic fantasy thrill ride that fans of both properties are going to enjoy. Here’s the synopsis:

THE WITCHER is an epic tale of fate and family.  Be among the first to get the exclusive scoop on the highly anticipated new Netflix original series centering around famed monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia. Be introduced to the world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.

The series stars Henry Cavill as Geralt, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri, Jodhi May (Game of Thrones, Genius) as Calanthe, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (Fortitude) as Eist, Adam Levy (Knightfall, Snatch) as Mousesack, MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street, Kill List) as Tissaia), Mimi Ndiweni (Black Earth Rising) as Fringilla, Therica Wilson-Read (Profile) as Sabrina, and Emma Appleton (The End of The F**king World) as Renfri, Eamon Farren (The ABC Murders, Twin Peaks) as Cahir, Joey Batey (Knightfall, Strike) as Jaskier, Lars Mikkelsen (House of Cards, Sherlock) as Stregobor, Royce Pierreson (Wanderlust, Judy) as Istredd, Maciej Musiał (1983) as Sir Lazlo, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte (Jamillah & Aladdin, Dickensian) as Dara, and Anna Shaffer (Harry Potter) as Triss.

I’ve loved what I’ve seen so far from the series and I can’t wait to see more! I think this show has the potential to be a massive success!
