THE X-FILES Creator Chris Carter Says He Won't Continue The Series Without Gillian Anderson

X-Files star Gillian Anderson recently confirmed that she is done with the series after Season 11. For those of you wondering what a series might be like without her, wonder no longer, because according to series creator Chris Carter, he wouldn't want the series won't continue without her.

When talking about Anderson's departure from the show and what it will mean for the future of the series during a Reddit AMA, he said:

"For me, the show has always been Mulder & Scully. So the idea of doing the show without her isn’t something I’ve ever had to consider. Was her character given a proper goodbye? I think you will want to sit down and watch the series finale very carefully.”

We'll just have to wait and see how her story arc plays out through this current season, the premiere of which aired last night. In a separate interview with Collider, Carter went on to say that an X-Files series without Scully, isn't his X-Files:

“For me, ‘The X-Files’ is Mulder and Scully. I think if it were without Scully, I wouldn’t do it. That’s not my ‘X-Files.'”

Carter previously said this to say of the series, saying it could go on indefinitely, depending on if the actors want to keep doing it:

“I’m always thinking that this could be it. I don’t know what the future holds. While I try to do my best, and we did well the last time out, this time out could be different. For me, ‘The X-Files’ can go on, indefinitely. It’s really how long Mulder and Scully, and David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] want to do the show.”

Well, it looks like Season 11 might be it. As a hardcore X-Files fan, I'm ok with the show coming to an end if Anderson won't be back to reprise her role. I just hope that this current season wraps things up nicely and brings it to a close in a way that will make fans happy.

Do you think The X-Files should end, or would you like to see it keep going without Scully? Did you want the first episode last night? If so, what did you think!?
