THE X-FILES is Headed to Pluto TV for Free Streaming Starting New Year’s Day

If you’ve been looking for an excuse to fall back into government conspiracies, unexplained phenomena, and flashlight-lit basements, the time is almost here. The X-Files is officially coming to Pluto TV, and it’ll be available to watch for free beginning on New Year’s Day.

The long-running sci-fi drama is already streaming on Hulu and Disney+, but Pluto TV changes the game by making the entire series available with no subscription required. Ads are part of the deal, but that’s a small price to pay for unrestricted access to one of television’s most influential genre shows.

On top of on-demand viewing, Pluto TV is also launching a dedicated 24/7 linear channel for the series within its sci-fi lineup.

That channel will air every episode in chronological order, letting viewers experience the full saga from the pilot onward. After that initial run, Pluto TV will roll into curated weekend marathons, which feels perfect for getting lost in the show’s weirder corners.

The series first premiered on Fox back in 1993 and ran for nine seasons before wrapping up in 2002. Its popularity carried over to the big screen with two feature films released in 1998 and 2008.

Years later, the show returned with Seasons 10 and 11, which aired in 2016 and 2018. All 11 seasons, totaling 218 episodes, will be included in the Pluto TV release, giving fans the complete experience in one place.

Created by Chris Carter, The X-Files stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Their partnership sits at the center of the show, balancing Mulder’s belief in the paranormal with Scully’s science-driven skepticism as they investigate unsolved cases that often defy logic and explanation.

This is one of my all-time favorite shows, and it’s one that I revisit often. It’s just so damn good and incredibly entertaining!

The show’s impact still holds up decades later thanks to David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson (and their undeniable chemistry). Fans hung on to every surreal and fantastical adventure that Mulder and Scully found themselves on.

The series perfectly balanced a rich mythology with its famous ‘Monster of the Week’ episodes, and worked well enough to last nine seasons, two movies and another two seasons in revival, with another revival on the way.

The X-Files now joins a solid lineup of sci-fi programming on Pluto TV, which already features dedicated channels for Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, Stargate, and Doctor Who. For fans of classic genre television, Pluto TV is quietly becoming a great place to hang out and stream without spending a dime.
