There Was a Little TRANSFORMERS Cameo in BUMBLEBEE That You Might Have Missed
As much as fans would have liked Bumblebee to be a hard reboot of the Transformers film franchise, it’s not. It is connected to the previously made, Michael Bay-directed films.
The movie shows us how Bumblebee lost his ability to speak, and Megatron even had an awesome action-sequence that had to be cut out of the opening of the film during the Battle of Cybertron because of the film’s connection to the original Transformers movie. There were a few other links, but I won’t spoil them for anyone that hasn’t seen the movie yet.
There was another little thing that you may have missed that connects Bumblebee to the original franchise. Remember John Turturro’s character Agent Seymour Simmons? Well, there’s a scene where Sector 7's Agent Burns (John Cena) is sitting in his office and he is delivered a message from a seemingly random agent. It turns out that the nametag of that agent reads Simmons, which indicates that that was a younger version of Tuturro’s character.
I really like Tuturro as an actor, so I was shocked when he showed up in a movie like Transformers. But it’s a paycheck for an actor, so I can’t blame him. In the original film, Agent Burns went from being a bad guy to an ally, much like Cena’s character in Bumblebee.
I guess it makes sense that Simmons would be a low-level agent for Sector 7 in the 80s. Did you notice this when you first saw the movie.
