There's a Live-Action HOT WHEELS Movie in Development with Hasbro and Warner Bros.
Mattel and Warner Bros. are teaming up to produce a live-action feature film for the classic toy race car line, Hot Wheels. First Funko Pops! and now Hot Wheels.
This isn’t the first time a Hot Wheels movie has gone into development. Back in 2003 directors like Simon Crane and McG jumped in the driver’s seat. Then in 2016, Justin Lin (Fast and Furious) was going to direct the movie for Legendary Entertainment. Obviously those past film productions fell apart.
Ynon Kreiz, Mattel’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement:
“We are excited to bring the thrill of a Hot Wheels live-action feature film to the big screen in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures. Mattel Films has great momentum as it continues to execute on our commitment to bring global audiences new ways to experience the brands they love as we transform Mattel into an IP-driven, high-performing toy company.”
Mattel and WB also are partnering up on the Barbie movie, which Margot Robbie is attached to star in. Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros.’ chairman added:
“Hot Wheels has been inspiring the imagination of kids around the world for over 50 years. We couldn’t be more excited to be bringing the adrenaline, adventure, and excitement of Hot Wheels to the big screen.”
There are no details on what the plot of the film will entail or who will write, direct, or star in it, but I hope they bring on a talented team to being the story to life. I loved playing with Hot Wheels when I was a kid, so I would love nothing more than to see a great Hot Wheels movie get made. Only time will tell.
What is the kind of Hot Wheels story would you like to see? What kind of story do you think Hollywood will end up giving us?
