This First Clip From ALIEN: ROMULUS Was Taped Off of a VHS Tape
Here’s an interesting bit of marketing for director Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus. This first clip from the movie was released on VHS, and that VHS tape was sent to a handful of press.
io9 shared a video of the clip playing out on a older TV, and you can watch that full scene play out in the video below.
Alvarez said on X, "Me and @20thcentury decided to release one full scene from my movie #AlienRomulus thou I had just one condition… it needed to be on VHS,"
The lo-fi scene revolves around the crew getting ready for liftoff and embarking on a mission to the space station Renaissance. It shows the ship and its crew blasting off into space and gives us a sense of what that experience is like.
The tape also included a tease for Alien: Romulus’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
Alien: Romulus follows a “group of young people on a distant world who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe.”
The movie stars Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, who is also joined by Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Spike Fearn (Aftersun), and newcomer Aileen Wu.
Alvarez is directing from his script written by Rodo Sayagues. Ridley Scott is also a producer on the movie along with Michael Pruss (Boston Strangler) for Scott Free, with Brent O’Connor (Bullet Train), Elizabeth Cantillon (Persuasion) and Tom Moran (The Donut King) serving as executive producers.
Alien: Romulus is set to hit theaters on August 16th.
