Tim Burton Compares Johnny Depp Backlash To The Story of Frankenstein
As you know, Johnny Depp, went through a very public trial to clear his name after his ex-wife Amber Heard made several accusations against him. Depp ended up winning the trial in the end, but his acting career took a dive, studios aren’t jumping to work with him anymore, and his public profile crashed with a lot of fans.
During a recent interview with The Independent, the longtime Depp collaborator Tim Burton talked about the backlash against the actor and he compared it to the story of Frankenstein. When asked about Depp, Burton told a story about when he was a kid, he saw society in the same way he saw the angry villagers in the story of Frankenstein.
“Here’s the thing. When I was a child, I always had an image of the angry villagers in Frankenstein… I always used to think about society that way, as the angry village. You see it more and more. It’s a very, very strange human dynamic, a human trait that I don’t quite like or understand.”
Depp and Burton have collaborated on eight films over the course of their careers, and their close friends, so it makes sense that Burton would feel protective of Depp. Comparing the Depp situation to Frankenstein is an interesting take, but one that makes sense coming from Burton.
