Timothy Olyphant Is Playing the STAR WARS Character Cobb Vanth in THE MANDALORIAN Season 2

Last week it was reported that Timothy Olyphant was cast in Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian Season 2. Thanks to a recent report from /Film, we now know who the actor is playing in the series, and he’s certainly a perfect fit for the role!

The site reports that Olyphant is taking on the role of a character named Cobb Vanth, who was originally introduced in Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath book series. He is a human that lived around the time of the Battle of Endor. He was once a slave but rose to become the self-appointed sheriff of Freetown on the planet Tatooine.

One of the most interesting things about the character is that he acquired a set of Mandalorian armor from Jawas. The Jawas got the armor while they were scavenging the wreckage of Jabba the Hutt’s sail barge shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi. That set of Mandalorian armor previously belonged to Boba Fett. So, Cobb Vanth is wearing Boba Fett’s armor in the series, which means the character that showed up at the end of “The Gunslinger” episode, with the sound of Fett’s spurs, might not be Boba Fett, it could actually be Vanth.

We don’t know the details of how the Jawas got Fett’s armor, but maybe that info will be revealed in the series. We do know that Boba Fett will appear in The Mandalorian Season 2 and the character is being played by Jango Fett actor Temuera Morrison. I imagine he won’t be wearing his iconic armor in the series, though. Hell, he might not be wearing any armor at all!

We don’t know what the circumstances are as to why Boba Fett left his armor behind after escaping Sarlacc Pit. I’m sure the series will give us the answers to some of these questions. The report suggests that maybe Boba Fett didn’t even survive the Sarlacc Pitt and that his involvement in the series might come down to a flashback sequence. But, there have been reports that Boba Fett will play a larger role in Season 3. Maybe those reports are really connected to Cobb Vanth, since he is wearing Boba Fett’s armor.

What do you think about all this? In the end, though, Olyphant is a great choice to bring this character life! It’ll be interesting to see how his story arc plays out in the series.
