Todd Phillips Reveals JOKER Sequel Script and Photo of Joaquin Phoenix Reading It
Joker director Todd Phillps has completed a script for the sequel, the working title of which is Joker: Folie à Deux. The filmmaker shared a photo of the script cover and another photo of Joaquin Phoenix reading it. That script was written by Phillips and Scott Silver, his collaborator on the first film,
It was really only a matter of time before this was going to happen. The first film made over a billion dollars at the box office, of course, they were going to make a sequel!
While Phillps did not offer any plot details for the sequel, the title offers a little insight as it translates as “shared madness,” folie à deux is a layman’s term for shared delusional disorder.
When previously talking about how he would handle a sequel to Joker, Phillips said: “It couldn’t just be this wild and crazy movie about the ‘Clown Prince of Crime’. It would have to have some thematic resonance in a similar way that this does. Because I think that’s ultimately why the movie connected, it’s what’s going on underneath. So many movies are about the spark, and this is about the powder. If you could capture that again in a real way, that would be interesting.”
I’m curious to see what Phillps has come up with for this next chapter of Joker’s story.
