Tom Brittney Responds to DCU Batman Rumors With a Telling "No Comment"

Speculation over who will play Batman in the DC Universe has been running wild, and one actor's latest response is only adding more fuel to the fire.

Tom Brittney has found himself at the center of the latest casting conversation after recent comments from YouTuber John Campea sparked theories that DC Studios may have already found its next big-screen Dark Knight.

While nobody has officially confirmed anything, Brittney was finally asked about the rumor, and his answer was exactly the kind of response that keeps fans talking.

It all started last week when Campea claimed that he believes DC Studios has already cast its new Batman. He stopped short of revealing the actor's identity, but that didn't stop fans from trying to connect the dots.

Almost immediately, Brittney became one of the internet's favorite picks. The actor had previously been considered for the role of Superman before David Corenswet ultimately landed the part in Superman, making him an easy name for fans to latch onto.

Since then, Campea has slightly adjusted his original claim. Rather than insisting one actor had the role locked down, he later explained that there may actually be three actors in the running.

According to him, there's one "primary" candidate along with two others that he knows have spoken with the studio. He also emphasized that the mystery actor is someone he wasn't expecting.

Despite the claim, Campea still hasn't shared any names. It’s a scoopless scoop to get clicks and views.

Brittney was recently asked about the speculation during an appearance on Good Day New York, and instead of shutting it down, he offered a response that's guaranteed to keep the rumor mill spinning.

"No comment. I know nothing. Just lovely, wonderful rumors."

It's an interesting answer. Actors often lean on "no comment" when they're under some level of confidentiality and can't discuss a project.

Of course, that doesn't automatically mean Brittney is about to suit up as Gotham's protector. It's also entirely possible he understands that keeping fans guessing is far more entertaining than flatly denying the rumor. Either way, the speculation isn't going anywhere.

As for Batman's future in the DCU, things remain a bit uncertain. The planned The Brave and the Bold movie reportedly isn't one of DC Studios' immediate priorities. James Gunn has previously explained that finding the right approach to Batman has proven more difficult than expected.

That doesn't necessarily rule out casting conversations, though. Even if The Brave and the Bold isn't moving forward right away, there's always the possibility that Bruce Wayne could make his first DCU appearance in another project before headlining his own film.

Adding another wrinkle to DC's slate, World of Reel's Jordan Ruimy has reported that a new Wonder Woman movie is expected to move into production before The Brave and the Bold, with filming potentially beginning sometime next year before Gunn officially gives Batman's movie the green light.

Gunn has previously discussed why Batman has become such a difficult character to reinvent, explaining:

"Wonder Woman I think is actually easier for me, because there haven’t been so many infinite portrayals of Wonder Woman—definitely not in movies, but really anywhere—that there have been of Batman.

“Every single Batman story has been told. It seems like half the comics that have come out of DC over the past 30 years have Batman in them. He’s the most famous superhero in the world and the most popular superhero in the world.

“And people love him because he’s interesting, but also having so much of him out there can also make him boring. So how do you create that property that’s fun to watch?”

For now, fans are left doing what superhero fans do best: theorizing. Whether Brittney is genuinely in the running or simply enjoying the attention surrounding the rumor, his "No comment" certainly isn't going to put the speculation to rest.

Until DC Studios officially reveals who will wear the cape and cowl in the DCU, every interview and every carefully chosen answer will continue to be examined for clues.
