Tom Cruise Didn't Want You to Watch TOP GUN: MAVERICK, He Wanted You to Feel It!

As you know, Top Gun: Maverick was an epic success at the box office, and as I said in my review, which you can find on the cover of the Blu-ray, it’s one of the greatest movies ever made! I freakin’ love the film, and it was easily one of the best movie-going experiences I’ve ever experienced.

They just don’t make movies like that! I’m not sure If we’ll ever see a movie like it again unless Tom Cruise decides to make a third film, which I seriously doubt will happen.

What made this movie so incredible for me is that you can freakin’ feel it, and that’s exactly what Cruise was looking to do with the movie. That was his goal. During a recent interview with /Film, the editor of the movie, Eddie Hamilton, talked about capturing the emotion of the story and Cruise’s goal with the film saying:

"[Tom Cruise] tries to make films which resonate emotionally with an audience. It's really important that you don't watch the film, you feel the film. That's constantly what he's telling us."

I love that he doesn’t want us to watch the movie, he wants us to feel it in every way possible, and he and his creative team definitely pulled that off! Hamilton went on to say:

The audience has to feel it. You don't want them observing it. You want them to be on an emotional journey which is completely seamless from beginning to end, which is almost the holy grail of a movie."

It’s awesome that they actually managed to pull that off with Top Gun: Maverick. The first time I saw the film I was hooked from beginning to end, and along that journey I laughed, I cried, and I cheered my heart out with the rest of the audience. I saw this movie seven times while it was in theaters!

I hope that Cruise continues to push the envelope in the films he makes because he sure does know how to entertain an audience at the movies.

I wish every film could make you feel the way Top Gun: Maverick did, but that’s a rare thing. Hopefully, other filmmakers and studios learn from what this film accomplished.
