Tom Hardy Comments on Possibly Returning to MAD MAX for George Miller's THE WASTELAND Prequel

Max Max creator George Miller has another prequel film in mind that he’d like to make titled The Wasteland. The movie would tell the story of “what happened to Max in the year before we encounter him in Fury Road.”

When writing Fury Road, Miller and the writers wrote everything out regarding what happened to Max during that time, and it seems like it would be a whole new story to tell!

Tom Hardy was recently asked in an interview about the possibility of working with Miller again to reprise his Mad Max: Fury Road role in the potential movie, and he made it clear that he’s not interested.

Hardy told Forbes: “I don’t think that’s happening.” As we all know, working on Fury Road was not a pleasant experience for a lot of people because Hardy was difficult on set.

Miller previously talked about that and working with Hardy: “They were just two very different performers. Tom has a damage to him but also a brilliance that comes with it, and whatever was going on with him at the time, he had to be coaxed out of his trailer.

“Whereas Charlize was incredibly disciplined – a dancer by training, which told in the precision of her performance – and always the first one on set.”

The director also mentioned that after the issue with Hardy was addressed, things got better, adding, “I’m an optimist, so I saw their behavior as mirroring their characters, where they had to learn to cooperate in order to ensure mutual survival.

“There’s no excuse for it, and I think there’s a tendency in this business to use great performances as an excuse for other disruption that could be avoided.”

As for if Miller will actually get the chance to make another Mad Max movie, he said it’s something that we’ll have to “wait and see.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga didn’t do as well at the box office as the studio hoped, so who knows what will happen with the future of the franchise. I hope Miller gets to make another Mad Max movie!
