Tom Hiddleston Discusses Loki and Says The Marvel Series is "a New Departure"

Fans have a lot of questions regarding Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ Loki series. A couple of weeks ago our first look at the series come from a piece of key art that showed Loki in the 1970s. That’s an interesting setting for the character and I’m curious to see how exactly this series is going to play out.

During a recent interview with THR, Tom Hiddleston talked about the character he plays, saying:

"It is a constant source of surprise and delight that these films have connected with people. I knew he was a complex figure. Intelligent yet vulnerable. Angry and lost and broken and witty. I thought it was an amazing opportunity and it’s grown into this network of movies. I could never have expected it. I feel very fortunate that this character has connected with people."

When talking about the series, he didn’t say much. All he would say is:

"All I can tell you is that it is called Loki. It is a new departure ... but I can’t explain why.”

Obviously, he doesn’t want to give anything away, but it’s safe to say that the series will be a departure from any of the other stories we’ve seen Loki in in the MCU. It was previously explained that the show “will follow Loki as the trickster and shapeshifter pops up throughout human history as unlikely influencer on historical events.”

That would explain the 70s setting and any other historical setting that the character finds himself in. It’s an interesting concept to play with and I’m looking forward to seeing how Kevin Feige and his creative team pull it off.

What are some historical setting that you would like to see Loki in?
