Tom Hiddleston Opens Up About Loki’s Return in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY

Marvel studios recently announced that Tom Hiddleston, is set to return to the role of Loki in Avengers: Doomsday, and now the actor is opening up about it.

Speaking with journalist Max Balegde at the 2025 Olivier Awards. (via The Direct), Hiddleston expressed his excitement in classic charming fashion:

“Very, very excited. It’s really remarkable, actually, that I can talk about it because, mostly, I’m in a position of knowing and not being able to say anything.”

Anyone who’s followed Hiddleston’s time in the MCU knows how closely Marvel guards its secrets. He’s clearly used to the game, but that doesn’t make it easier.

When asked about spoiler culture, HIddleston said: “It’s strange. You have to be very disciplined about carrying this secret around.”

Loki’s story reached an emotional high point at the end of Loki Season 2, which aired in late 2023. The final episode saw the character assume his “glorious purpose,” becoming the new protector of the multiverse, literally holding the threads of reality together. It felt like a poetic sendoff.

At the time, Hiddleston even hinted at closure during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which made some fans nervous that he was saying goodbye for good.

But now, with Doomsday in his future, it seems Loki’s story is far from finished. Reflecting on how far he’s come, Hiddleston shared:

“It all comes full circle. It’s the conclusion to Seasons One and Two, and it’s also the conclusion to six films and 12 episodes, and 14 years of my life. 14 years. I was 29 when I was cast, I’m 42 now. It’s been a journey.”

That journey clearly isn’t over. When asked about stepping back into Loki’s shoes again, he simply said it was “an extraordinary chapter of my life,” and added, “not over yet.”

Alongside Hiddleston, the Avengers: Doomsday cast is shaping up to be stacked with both returning legends and new power players. Names like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Channing Tatum, and Patrick Stewart are all set to appear.

It was previously reported that Loki might be the driving force behind the entire movie. It was said that “He’ll be our MacGuffin. The race against Doomsday will be a race to see who gets to Loki first.”

If the rumors are true, the next Avengers movie may revolve around Doom and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes scrambling to find Loki first, each with their own reasons.

Doom wants power. The Avengers want to stop him. And Loki is the key to the key to holding the multiverse together, as he maintains the Multiverse’s infinite branching timelines, and controlling (or removing) him could unravel reality itself.

The film is currently slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on May 7, 2027.
