Tom Hiddleston Says THOR: RAGNAROK Will Be His "Last Time" Playing Loki

Sounds like one of Marvel Studios' best villains is about to take his final bow.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, actor Tom Hiddleston revealed that, as far as he knows, the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok will be the last time he suits up to play Loki, the evil trickster who has plagued Thor and the Avengers multiple times in the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“Thor 3 will be cool because I’ve not done it for four years,” says Hiddleston. “I love working with Chris [Hemsworth]. This will be my last time out of the gate.”

Wait… So you’re not going to pop up in Avengers: Infinity War?

“I don’t know! Honestly, I don’t know,” he says with a shrug. “They haven’t got their ducks in a row yet. They make it up as they go along.”

Yesterday, I dinged the creatives at Warner Bros. and DC for apparently not knowing what's going to happen with one of their roster's most iconic villains, Lex Luthor, because Jesse Eisenberg said he wasn't sure if he was going to appear in Justice League. So that means I should give the Marvel creatives equal grief for not having a solid plan in place for one of its own baddies, right? Not necessarily — the difference is that Justice League starts shooting in two weeks, and it'll be months before cameras start rolling on Avengers: Infinity War.

There's still time for the Russo Brothers and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely to find a place for Loki should they be interested in doing that, but frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing the character sit out that two-part adventure because Thanos is going to be causing enough trouble as it is without another legendary bad guy to worry about. Plus, that's one more character that needs screen time, and in a film that has the potential to be, just by virtue of its premise, one of the most overstuffed we've ever seen, paring things down to the essentials seems like a necessary step. I'd be happy to see Hiddleston finish out his time at Marvel in Thor: Ragnarok where he can have more of the spotlight and give Loki the finale he deserves.
