Tom Holland Plans Acting Break After THE ODYSSEY and SPIDER-MAN 4: “You Can't Do Your Best Work When You're Burnt Out”

Tom Holland has been on a tear. With back-to-back productions of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it’s no wonder the actor is ready to hit pause.

Holland recently told GQ UK he’s planning to step away from the spotlight for a bit, recognizing the importance of knowing when to rest.

“I feel really blessed to be at a point in my career where I can take time off, reset, and come back ready to go. You can't be in every movie, and you can't do your best work when you're burnt out.”

The MCU star has certainly earned the time off. He wrapped Nolan’s historical epic The Odyssey, then jumped straight into filming his fourth Spider-Man film, currently shooting on location in Glasgow. And that’s just his on-set work. Holland is also expected to embark on major press tours in 2026 when both films hit theaters in July.

“What I've learnt is that it's important to set boundaries – to be mindful about overworking. I've got a slightly busy year next year, and then I'll probably take a bit more time off in 2027. We'll see.”

Must be nice for some people to actually take a break from working. Regardless, with Avengers: Secret Wars looming and Holland’s name absent from the current Avengers: Doomsday lineup, all signs point to Peter Parker playing a role in the franchise’s massive multiversal finale.

But so far, there’s no word on filming schedules, leaving fans guessing about where and when Spider-Man might swing in again.

For now, Holland is putting in the work, knowing exactly when he’ll need to take a breath. After nearly a decade of balancing blockbusters, prestige dramas, and streaming projects, the actor has clearly figured out what it takes to avoid burnout and stay at the top of his game.
