Tom Holland Says SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Is a "Rebirth" That Feels "Completely New"

Even though it’s technically his fourth time swinging into action as Peter Parker in the MCU, Tom Holland says Spider-Man: Brand New Day doesn’t feel like a continuation at all. Instead, he’s treating it as the start of something brand new.

While speaking to Complex, Holland explained that working on the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film has been unlike his past experiences playing Spidey.

"It really feels like we aren't making the fourth movie. We're making the first movie in the next chapter… This is Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This is a rebirth. This is something completely new."

It’s clear that Holland and the creative team behind the film are looking to push things into uncharted territory, which is great! That’s what I was hoping to see.

While Brand New Day is meant to set up the future of Spider-Man in the MCU, Holland revealed that the new suit he’s rocking also nods to the past. It wasn’t hard to notice the design elements from both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of the character.

"I'm really glad that people are picking up on the homage to Tobey and Andrew's suit[s]. I really like the idea that… he looks up to them and he sees little details on their suits that he thinks are really cool, and now he is making his own suit and isn't part of the bigger team."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day brings back Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, while also adding some big names to the mix. Jon Bernthal returns as The Punisher, Michael Mando is back as Scorpion, and newcomers like Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and Severance actor Tramell Tillman join the MCU for the first time. Mark Ruffalo is also confirmed to return as Hulk.

With Holland calling Brand New Day a "rebirth," expectations are super high for what this means for the future of Spider-Man. After No Way Home tied up so many loose ends, it sounds like this next chapter will give fans a fresh story while still honoring the legacy of Spider-Men who came before.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters on July 31, 2026.
