Tom Holland on His Future as Spider-Man After BRAND NEW DAY and Why the New Suit Is a Spoiler
It’s been almost five years since we last saw Tom Holland’s Peter Parker on the big screen, but the wait is nearly over with Spider-Man: Brand New Day swinging into theaters in 2026. As fans wonder about what the film means for the wall-crawler’s future in the MCU, and Holland has opened up about what might come next.
While Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed anything, it’s widely expected that Holland will continue on with another trilogy and appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Still, when speaking to LADbible, the actor insisted he doesn’t know what’s next.
"I think with anything, it's all about what's in front of you, and right now what's in front of us is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and focusing on making that movie worthy of the last film.
“I have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a Spider-Man movie, and that's been my driving force in these pitch meetings."
He admitted that his persistence in shaping the movie may have tested the patience of the producers, adding:
"I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it's really important, because we make these movies for [the fans]. In terms of my future in the character beyond this film, I don't know the answer to that."
Whether Holland is genuinely unsure or just playing it safe to avoid spoiling anything remains to be seen, but Marvel and Sony almost certainly have long-term plans for him.
One of the more intriguing parts of the new film is Spider-Man’s cool-looking updated costume. Set photos and videos have already revealed, but Holland revealed that even hinting at the comic book influences behind the suit would give too much away.
"It might be a spoiler to reference which [comics] inspired the new suit. What's been really fun about this most recent movie is designing the suit and being a part of that process and understanding what we wanted to try and achieve."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is looking to pit Peter against The Punisher and The Scorpion, with Jon Bernthal returning to his iconic role. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is also said to appear, and word is he may even revert back to a more savage form. Meanwhile, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Liza Colón-Zayas round out the cast, with reports of Florence Pugh showing up as well.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who previously wrote Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
