Tom Holland Thinks the UNCHARTED Script Is One of the Best He's Ever Read and That It Will Break the Video Game Movie Curse
The Uncharted film is struggling to find a director that’ll actually be able to make the film. However, that doesn’t stop star Tom Holland’s optimism and enthusiasm. Video game movies don’t have the best track record, but Holland believes that Uncharted will break the “curse” for one simple fact: it will tell the origin story leading up to the games. He recently told IGN:
“I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don't is that it's an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven't seen what's going to happen in the film. And if you haven't played the games, you're going to enjoy the film because it's information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I'm super excited to make that movie and it's been a long time coming.”
In other words, this video game movie will, in theory, be seen as canon and therefore tie into the games whereas most other video game movies use the characters from the games and usually create a new story and not be connected to the actual games in any way. The fact that Uncharted will be a prequel film isn’t that surprising as Holland appears considerably younger than his character Nathan Drake from the games, but I can see him being a fantastic younger Nathan Drake.
Holland went on to say that the script for the film is one of the best that he’s ever read:
“I read the newest draft of the script on the way over here and it's one of the best scripts I've ever read. It really, really jumps off the page.”
Ruben Fleischer is currently set as the director for Uncharted which is slated for release on March 5, 2021.
