Tom Holland's UNCHARTED Movie Has Been Given a 2020 Release Date

Sony Pictures has set the release date for director Dan Trachtenberg’s film adaptation of Uncharted for December 18th, 2020.

Tom Holland (Spider-Man) is set to star in the film as a young version of the Nathan Drake. The story for the film is said to take place when Nathan Drake and Sully, his surrogate father, were much younger. “It’s an origin story that evolves out of the game but is not from the game."

We don’t know who is playing Sully in the film yet, but the last we heard, Chris Hemsworth, Matthew McConaughey, Chris Pine, and Woody Harrelson were up for the role. Here’s a description of Sully that was previously provided by the studio:

"Rugged and handsome, equal parts refinement and contagious charm, Sully is the kind of guy who turns heads when he walks into the room. Sully is a highly skilled career criminal – he knows how to read a room quickly and impressively, and nothing gets past him. He becomes Nate’s mentor and teaches him everything he knows, helping mold him from a small-time pickpocket into a skilled thief. Sully has a fun banter with Nate, and though at moments he feels like a father figure to him, in truth he is self-interested above all else. Sully does care for Nate, and goes against his instincts to save him in the end.”

The latest draft of the screenplay comes from Jonathan Rosenberg and Mark Walker. I’m a huge fan of the Uncharted video game franchise, but I’m just not excited about this movie. I’d much rather see the older, rugged version of Nathan Drake in action.

While I love what Holland has done with Spider-Man and the other roles he’s taken on, I just don’t see him as a Nathan Drake type character.
