Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum Discuss the Possibility of a SMALLVILLE Movie
Smallville is one hell of a great series! I rewatched it last year and it was so much fun experiencing that epic superhero story again and revisiting these wonderful characters. Well, Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) and Tom Welling (Superman) recently discussed if they would ever be interested in reprising their roles for a feature-length film that would continue their story.
While on Rosenbaum’s podcast Inside of You podcast, Rosenbaum asked Welling if he’d ever consider doing a sequel movie, saying:
“If they would come up with an idea for a Smallville movie or five years later or let’s say they say ‘We have this idea, it’s still before you become Superman and it’s this little window here, and it’s going to be on Netflix,’ would you consider it.”
Welling responded, saying:
“I mean, I’d be ‘Yes, let’s hear it.’ I don’t know how it would happen. I mean listen, I was thinking about this the other day right before we did our Talk Ville Podcast, we were on one of the most successful shows in the history of television like Top 50.
“From that show, I’ve never gotten an incoming call from anyone involved in that show for further work. I don’t mean to, I’m not saying like I don’t feel bad about that, I don’t harp on anybody about that. But you would think that when you’re successful, you would be continued successful with successful people. But I think the time has changed.”
So, Welling just doesn’t expect anyone who was involved with the show to contact him. It’s pretty wild that these people who worked together all those years and created a great series, never got back together to try and develop some kind of other show.
As for a Smallville movie, yeah… it would be interesting to see what kind of idea could come from that, but I seriously doubt it will ever happen.
Smallville aired on The CW from 2001 to 2011, airing 217 episodes across 10 seasons.
