SMALLVILLE Star Michael Rosenbaum Wants to Play Lex Luther in James Gunn's DC Cinematic Universe
James Gunn recently shocked DC fans when he revealed that he’s writing a new Superman movie and that Henry Cavill would not be coming back to reprise his role. All we know about Gunn’s Superman movie right now is that it will focus on an earlier part of Superman’s life.
According to reports, the story is not an origin story, and it will focus on Superman/Clark Kent living in Metropolis and working at The Daily Planet.
He also teased that the movie would include other "major characters.” He didn’t clarify who those characters are, but it would make sense if one of them ended up being Lex Luthor. After all, he’s Superman’s main antagonist.
Well, Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum has made it known that he'd like to be considered for the role of Lex Luthor in Gunn’s DC Cinematic Universe. Responding to a fan on Twitter, Rosenberg said:
"I hope I'd be in the running. I mean I did play him for 7 years. Unless you guys would have a problem with that."
You know, I’d love to see Rosenbaum back in the role of Lex Luthor, but it would really only make sense if it was connected to Smallville and I don’t think that Gunn is going to take the DCU in that direction. Regardless, it’s always nice to see that Rosenbaum continues to embrace his role of Lex Luthor and is interested in returning to play him again.
Gunn previously said that “Superman is a huge priority, if not the biggest priority." This first film is going to set the tone for what the rest of this new DCU is going to be. They are setting on a mission to tell the “Biggest Story Ever Told across multiple films, television shows, & animated projects.”
Would you like to see Rosenbaum back in the role of Lex Luthor? Do you think that’s something we’ll ever see happen?
