TOY STORY 5 Trailer Sees Woody and Buzz Face a Terrifying New Threat... Technology
Pixar has released the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, and it looks like Woody and Buzz are about to face their most confusing, and hilarious, challenge yet. The fifth film in the iconic franchise hits theaters on June 19, 2026, bringing back everyone’s favorite toys for a whole new kind of playtime chaos.
In the teaser, the gang encounters a sleek, frog-shaped smart tablet called Lilypad, a high-tech gadget that completely upends the way toys interact with their kid.
According to Pixar’s description, “a high-tech, frog-shaped smart tablet that makes Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder when they go head to head with the all-new threat to playtime.”
The new character Lilypad will be voiced by Greta Lee, joining returning cast members Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, and Tony Hale as Forky. Conan O’Brien also joins the fun as a brand-new toy named Smarty Pants.
Andrew Stanton, the creative mind behind Finding Nemo, Wall-E, and Finding Dory, takes on directing duties. Stanton, who co-wrote all four previous Toy Story movies, serves as the sole screenwriter for the new installment.
The original Toy Story changed animation forever when it hit theaters in 1995 as the first fully computer-animated feature film. Since then, the franchise has evolved alongside its audience. Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 both passed the billion-dollar mark at the global box office and each won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
While Pixar’s recent box office performance has been a bit unpredictable, Elio brought in a modest $152 million globally, while Inside Out 2 dominated 2024 with over $1.5 billion, the studio’s sequels have continued to perform reliably. And with Toy Story being Pixar’s longest-running and most beloved series, expectations are high.
Between now and the release of Toy Story 5, Pixar will debut an original movie called Hoppers in March 2026. But it’s clear that all eyes are on the return of Woody, Buzz, and the gang as they take on a new kind of threat… technology.
