Trailer for the First Film Shot in Space, the Russian Movie THE CHALLENGE
A new trailer and poster have been released from the Russian movie The Challenge, the first film shot in space. Just like the space race, this idea had been in talks by Russians and Americans for decades, and Russia completed their film first. We have talked about the Doug Liman-directed movie that’s in the works with Tom Cruise in the starring role that will be America’s first film in space, and it sounds like it’s going to be really cool. But to hold us over, we have The Challenge to check out.
Here’s the synopsis:
Cosmonaut Ivanov loses consciousness while the spacecraft is in flight. Doctors decide it will be necessary to perform heart surgery in zero gravity. Cardiac surgeon Zhenya Belyaeva (Yulia Peresild), who does not have time to raise her three-year-old daughter, is preparing for the flight.
The film was directed by Klim Shipenko, who co-wrote the screenplay with Bakur Bakuradze, Ilya Malakhova, and Ivan Zamorov. The film was shot on the International Space Station (ISS) from October 5th - 17th, 2021. Of all the footage filmed in space, about 30% was filmed in the Nauka module, another third was filmed in the Zvezda module, and the remaining 30% was shot on the rest of ISS modules.
This looks like a really interesting movie that will be unlike any other before it. The Challenge is scheduled to open in Russia this April 2023. No other release dates have been released at this time. Check out the trailer and poster below, and let us know what you think.
