Hardcore Trailer For John Woo's Christmas Action Revenge Thriller SILENT NIGHT Starring Joel Kinnaman

The first trailer has landed for director John Woo’s upcoming Christmas action revenge thriller Silent Night, and this looks like it’s going to be a hardcore action movie! This is Woo’s first American film in 20 years and it looks like it’s going to deliver the goods! I can’t wait to watch this!

The movie stars Joel Kinnaman (The Suicide Squad) and the film is described as a “loud action tale, without a word of dialogue.” The trailer itself is dialogue-free as well, and it puts a focus on the story and the insane and brutal action that Woo enjoys playing with.

The film tells a “gritty revenge tale of a tormented father (Kinnaman) who witnesses his young son die when caught in a gang’s crossfire on Christmas Eve. While recovering from a wound that costs him his voice, Kinnaman makes vengeance his life’s mission and embarks on a punishing training regimen in order to avenge his son’s death. Full of Woo’s signature style, Silent Night redefines the action genre with visceral thrill-a-minute storytelling.”

Woo said of the film: “Very interesting movie. The whole movie is without dialogue. It allowed me to use visuals to tell the story, to tell how the character feels. We are using music instead of language. And the movie is all about sight and sound. The budget was a little tight, and the schedule was tight, but it made me change my working style. Usually, for a big movie, a studio movie, we shoot a lot of coverage, then leave it to the cutting room. But in this movie, I tried to combine things without doing any coverage shots. I had to force myself to use a new kind of technique. Some scenes were about two or three pages, but I did it all in one shot.”

The movie also stars Scott Mescudi a.k.a. Kid Cudi, Harold Torres, and Catalina Sandino Moreno. Silent Night has been rated “R” for “Strong bloody violence, drug use and some language,” and it will hit theaters on December 1.
