Trailer for Paul Giamatti and Alexander Payne's New Comedy Drama THE HOLDOVERS
Focus Features has released the first trailer for The Holdovers, an upcoming comedy-drama, which comes from director Alexander Payne and actor Paul Giamatti. I don’t know what it is about Payne’s movies, but I just enjoy watching them, I like the stories and characters that he comes up with. Payne has made films such as Sideways, The Descendants, Election, About Schmidt, Downsizing, and Nebraska.
In this new film, Giamatti plays a high school teacher who’s forced to spend the holidays with a group of students who don’t have a place to go. During this experience, he unexpectedly finds himself forming friendships with the school troublemaker and the head cook. It looks like a good movie!
The story follows “a curmudgeonly instructor (Giamatti) at a New England prep school who is forced to remain on campus during Christmas break to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go. Eventually, he forms an unlikely bond with one of them — a damaged, brainy troublemaker — and with the school’s head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam.”
The film also stars Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Idol) as Mary, Carrie Preston (True Blood) as Lydia Crane, Gillian Vigman (The Hangover) as Judy, Tate Donovan (Argo) as Stanley, Michael Provost (Insatiable) as Jason Smith, and Brady Hepner (The Black Phone) as Teddy Kountze, with newcomer Dominic Sessa as Angus.
The film is scheduled to premiere in select theaters on October 27, followed by its wide release on November 10.
