TREASURE ISLAND Trailer Sends David Oyelowo and Hayley Atwell Into a Deadly Hunt for Gold
Pirates, buried gold, shifting alliances, and David Oyelowo playing a dangerously charming Long John Silver? Okay, I’m willing to climb aboard.
MGM+ and Paramount+ have released the official trailer for their new Treasure Island miniseries, a fresh take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic 1883 adventure novel.
The series stars David Oyelowo as Long John Silver, Hayley Atwell as Bess Hawkins, and Tom Sweet as Jim Hawkins, and it looks like this version is leaning hard into danger, betrayal, and the ugly things people will do when a fortune is within reach.
The story follows teenager Jim Hawkins after he discovers a treasure map connected to the infamous Captain Flint. His mother Bess soon becomes caught up in the trouble, putting both of them in serious danger.
Their journey eventually takes them aboard the Hispaniola, where pirates, spies, and competing agendas turn the hunt for Flint’s treasure into a fight for survival.
Oyelowo’s Long John Silver sits right in the middle of the chaos, presented as a ruthless survivor who can be every bit as charming as he is cunning. Also chasing the gold is Aaron Graham, a revolutionary spy who hopes to use the treasure to challenge colonial power.
The official description reads: "A high-stakes reinvention of the classic, Treasure Island follows teenager Jim Hawkins & his formidable mother Bess as they're pulled into a deadly race for the treasure of infamous Captain Flint.
“Battling for control are Long John Silver—a ruthless survivor who is just as charming as he is cunning —and Aaron Graham, a revolutionary spy seeking to use the gold to upend colonial power.
“Set in 1788 across storm-battered Cornwall, treacherous seas, and a jungle island soaked in secrets, this is Treasure Island reimagined as a thrilling, immersive, and character-driven epic."
The cast also includes Jack Huston, Tomer Capone, Craige Els, Tristan Sturrock, and Neil Pendleton. Treasure Island was created and is showrun by Robert Murphy, whose previous credits include Meadowlands, Shetland, DCI Banks, and McDonald & Dodds.
Treasure Island premieres on MGM+ and Paramount+ on October 11, 2026.
