TRUE BLOOD and SIX FEET UNDER Revivals Not Moving Forward at HBO
HBO Max's content CEO Casey Bloys recently revealed in an interview with Variety that the much-anticipated revivals of HBO's True Blood and Six Feet Under are no longer happening. Some fans were waiting for these new revivals, but I’m actually kinda glad that the projects were canceled.
According to Bloys, there was never any serious discussion about a Six Feet Under revival. However, there was a plan for a True Blood revival that was actually in development, but ultimately, it just didn't pan out. Bloys revealed that although some scripts were written, none of them felt like they hit the mark.
True Blood, which premiered in 2008, is based on Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels. The show follows telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse, played by Anna Paquin, as she navigates the treacherous politics of vampires in rural Louisiana. Alongside Paquin, the show also starred Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley, Alexander Skarsgård, Lizzy Caplan, Deborah Ann Woll, and many more.
Meanwhile, Six Feet Under, which premiered in 2001, starred Peter Krause, Michael C. Hall, Frances Conroy, Lauren Ambrose, Freddy Rodriguez, and more. The show revolved around the Fisher family, who owned a funeral home, and dealt with the ups and downs of life and death. This is one of my all-time favorite shows and it has my favorite ending ever for a TV series.
I’m sure this may be disappointing news for fans of both series who were looking forward to revisiting their favorite characters and storylines. But, I think they made the right decision.
