Twisted Full Trailer for Nicolas Cage’s Jesus Horror Movie THE CARPENTER'S SON

Magnolia Pictures has unleashed the first full trailer for The Carpenter’s Son, a crazy horror reimagining of the childhood of Jesus, and it looks absolutely wild. The film stars Nicolas Cage as the Carpenter, FKA twigs as Mary, and Noah Jupe as a young Jesus, with a story that mixes faith, fear, and supernatural terror.

The movie is written and directed by Lotfy Nathan, drawing inspiration from the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas. The trailer teases a chilling blend of biblical themes and psychological horror, setting the stage for something audiences have never seen before.

The story follows a family hiding in Roman Egypt. Their son, simply called “the Boy,” begins to rebel against his guardian, the Carpenter, after meeting a mysterious child.

This encounter sparks doubts, awakens supernatural powers, and sets in motion a destiny that pulls the family into a terrifying conflict with both divine and earthly forces.

Magnolia’s synopsis describes it like this: “A remote village in Roman-era Egypt explodes into spiritual warfare when a carpenter, his wife and their child are targeted by supernatural forces in The Carpenter’s Son. Joseph (Nicolas Cage), Mary (FKA twigs) and their teenage son Jesus (Noah Jupe) have lived for years under threat, clinging to their faith and traditions.

“But a stopover in a small settlement unleashes growing chaos when a mysterious stranger (Isla Johnston) tries to entice young Jesus to abandon his devout father’s rules. With every pull of temptation, the boy is lured into a forbidden world, as a terrified Joseph realizes that a demonic power is at work.

“Violent, unnatural events inexplicably follow Jesus, and he begins to experience nightmarish visions of the future. Finally, he learns the fearsome truth about his new playmate, as well as the child’s real name: Satan.

“Writer and director Lotfy Nathan, drawing from his Coptic Christian background, delivers a meticulously crafted, genre-bending supernatural thriller packed with unshakeable images of the divine and demonic at war.”

Magnolia Pictures co-CEOs Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley praised Nathan’s vision, saying: “With The Carpenter’s Son, Lotfy Nathan has delivered a genre-bending spectacle that defies expectations at every turn.”

This is clearly a film designed to stir conversation and controversay. It’s not the first time an unconventional take on the Bible has made waves. From Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ to the Hollywood Bowl’s staging of Jesus Christ Superstar, history has shown that any reinterpretation of Jesus’ life can quickly become a cultural flashpoint.

The Carpenter’s Son is shaping up to be one of the most provocative and unsettling horror films of 2025, fusing Cage’s intensity. If the trailer is any indication, audiences should brace themselves for a haunting ride that pushes both genre and religious boundaries in some truly insane ways.

The movie hits theaters this fall.
