Universal Sets JURASSIC WORLD Sequel For 2018

After besting The Avengers at the box office, Jurassic World is hitting another milestone today: it's officially getting a sequel.

Variety reports that Universal has set a release date for the untitled movie for June 22nd, 2018. Steven Spielberg is returning to executive produce, while stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will reprise their roles as Owen and Claire, respectively. No word yet on whether Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins' characters will return.

We knew that director Colin Trevorrow wouldn't be directing the sequel, but he and writing partner Derek Connolly will return to write the screenplay. It's unclear whether rumors of him directing Star Wars: Episode 9 will pan out or not, but the fact that he's not returning to this franchise despite the loads of money Universal likely offered him may lend more credence to the rumor that he could be heading for a galaxy far, far away.

Excited about seeing Jurassic World 2? What do you think should happen in the next chapter of this franchise?
