UNTIL DAWN 2 Trailer Reveals a Terrifying New Island Story and January 2027 Release Date
PlayStation is kicking off 2027 with some horror as Until Dawn 2 officially has a release date, and we won’t have to wait very long once the new year arrives.
A new trailer for the long-awaited sequel confirms that Until Dawn 2 will launch for PS5 on January 28, 2027. When the game was first announced, PlayStation only gave it a broad 2027 window, so seeing it arrive this early in the year is a nice surprise.
I was a huge fan of the first Until Dawn. The branching story, slasher movie atmosphere, brutal deaths, and constant pressure of making choices that could get someone killed made it one of those games that was ridiculously fun to experience. From what we’ve seen so far, this sequel looks like it could deliver another great survival horror ride.
Rather than bringing back the original cast, Until Dawn 2 introduces a new group of characters and moves the nightmare to Akishima Island, giving the sequel its own identity while retaining the decision-driven gameplay that made the first game so much fun.
The official synopsis reads: “The Dead True ghost-hunting crew are chasing their biggest story yet. After an investigation at Blackwood Sanitorium takes a chilling turn, an encounter with supernatural survivor Yoona leads them to Akishima Island, a remote paradise abandoned for decades and hiding secrets far older than any of them imagined.
“As the night unfolds, your choices will decide what happens next. Follow a signal in search of a missing friend, or risk a detour that could uncover vital clues. Make the sacrifice you’re told to make, or choose another way. Every decision can change the story, and determine who survives.”
That sounds exactly like the kind of terrible vacation destination I want from an Until Dawn game! The sequel is being developed primarily by Firesprite, but PlayStation has also revealed that AdHoc is working on the project.
AdHoc made a strong impression with its debut game, Dispatch, which became a big hit with players and critics last year. Having that team involved makes this sequel even more interesting.
Until Dawn 2 will also be PlayStation’s first major PS5 release of 2027, arriving before God of War Laufey in February. Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet could potentially join PlayStation’s 2027 lineup as well, although its release window hasn’t been confirmed.
Moving the story into an abandoned island filled with supernatural horrors feels like a smart way to expand Until Dawn franchise and I’m ready to make some horrible decisions, accidentally get characters killed, immediately regret everything, and convince myself that I’ll make better choices on the next playthrough.
I’m definitely looking forward to playing this one. Until Dawn 2 launches January 28, 2027, for PS5.
