UNTIL DAWN Director Shows off The Film Gross Practicle Effects in New Behind-The-Scenes Video

Until Dawn director David F. Sandberg has released a cool new video showing off many of the practical effects audiences can expect to see in the horror film, and how they were pulled off.

In the video, Sandberg highlights one scene where a character’s face is repeatedly smashed into the ground. Rather than using CGI, the director shows how he uses editing and prosthetics to make the scene look like it was playing out in one cut.

Sandberg goes on talk about another sequence that shows a character stabbed through the back with a pickaxe. The filmmaker shows how the character being lifted up was pulled off by having the actress stand on a chair. Sandberg ended up cutting the lift from the final cut, but the video still offers some interesting insight.

Then there’s a scene he covers that features a character who has a worm crawling out of a hole in her face because that’s always fun! This is an example of using both practical effects and CGI.

The story sees the young characters being brutally killed only to come back to try to survive all over again, and they have to continue to survive until dawn.It was previously explained that every time a character comes back to life, it’s like they enter a whole new horror genre.

In the story, “One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers.

“Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening.

“Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again - only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last.

“Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”

Sandberg previously said of the film: “I’ve been longing to do horror again. This film explores the many great subgenres of horror to create the most terrifying experience possible.

“Capturing the essence of the game but with new characters, it serves as a great stand-alone introduction to the world for the newcomer as well as offers something new that the fans of the game will enjoy.”

The cast of the film includes Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Michael Cimino (Never Have I Ever), Ji-young Yoo (Expats), Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser), Peter Stormare, Maia Mitchell and Belmont Cameli.

The movie was written by Blair Butler (The Invitation) with contributions from Gary Dauberman (Salem’s Lot).

The film is described as “an R-rated love letter to the horror genre,” and it will be released in April.
