Update on the GOD OF WAR and HORIZON ZERO Series Projects in Development

Sony recently offered an update on the TV series adaptations of their hit gaming franchises God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn. During the Consumer Electronics Show, Sony revealed that the shows went into development earlier this year and are in the middle of being written.

God of War is set up at Prime Video, and they ordered a first season in December with Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time) attached as showrunner. Horizon Zero Dawn is set up at Netflix and it’s being developed by The Umbrella Academy's Steve Blackman.

God of War follows Kratos, the God of War, who, “after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son to spread her ashes from the highest peak—his wife’s final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new Gods and monsters for the fate of the world.”

Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios previously talked about what the series is doing and says that the studio is always looking for things that have an "emotional core" and a "real narrative story" which is what makes God of War "special."

He went on to share some new details on the story and praised it saying: "At the center of it all is this story of fathers and sons, and families, set against this giant epic landscape. So what Rafe [Judkins] and Mark [Fergus] and Hawk [Ostby] have come up with for the first season, and for the series, I think, is both incredibly true to the source material, and also compelling on its own. If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So we think it's going to be huge."

Horizon Zero Dawn follows Aloy, a brave young huntress in a primitive tribal world where strange, monstrous, animalistic machines roam the wilderness. She finds herself on a quest to learn the truth about her mysterious origin and the state the world is in.

There are no details on the series or if it will follow the story of the game or tell a story that expands on the game.

I’m excited for these two shows, and I hope that their respective creative teams end up delivering awesome shows!
